Local Organizations Partner to Help Hospice Patients Celebrate Passover
Created by hospice on 4/21/2011 12:31:30 PM

Voorhees, NJ – Samaritan Hospice honors the sacredness of life and the richness of Jewish tradition with the help of Congregation Beth El. As a pre-holiday service project, Congregation Beth El’s Social Action Co-chairs Cathy Backal and Michelle Billig, Director of Early Childhood Roselee Redelheim and kindergarten students prepared Passover bags for Samaritan hospice patients.

Each bag contains grape juice, matzos crackers, gefilte fish, sweets and a hand-made card from one of the Congregation’s kindergarten classes. The colorful construction paper cards wish Samaritan’s Jewish hospice patients a Happy Passover and are a reminder to embrace each moment, even while at the end of life. The bags  are delivered by a Samaritan volunteer.

Samaritan Hospice is a non-sectarian organization that addresses the spiritual needs of patients and families with varying religious traditions while they are coping with a life-limiting illness.  The not-for-profit’s Jewish Hospice Program, titled Sukkat Shalom (Shelter of Peace), addresses the spiritual, cultural and religious needs of its Jewish patients and their families. The program, developed in collaboration with Jewish Family and Children’s Service, is based on Samaritan Hospice’s core hospice program.
