Successful Gala Celebrates Life
Created by hospice on 3/15/2011 9:38:19 AM

Samaritan Hospice held its annual Celebration of Life Mardi Gras Gala at The Westin Mt. Laurel on February 26. Two hundred fifty attendees, 30 committee members and 124 sponsors, advertisers and donors joined together to raise over $151,000 to support Samaritan Hospice programs and services.

At the gala, Samaritan presented its Circle of Excellence Award to Dr. Peter W. Carmel, president-elect of the American Medical Association. Dr. Carmel is chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery at the New Jersey Medical School and co-medical director of the Neurological Institute of New Jersey.  As a member of the World Medical Association’s End-of-Life Work Group, Dr. Carmel has served as a global champion of palliative medicine.

Proceeds from the gala, sponsored by Holman Automotive, benefit the Samaritan Hospice programs and services which receive no reimbursement from Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance.  Proceeds also help care for patients who do not have insurance.  “As a not-for-profit agency, Samaritan has never turned anyone away for inability to pay,” explained Mary Ann Boccolini, Samaritan President/CEO.  “And with the continued support of our community, that tradition will continue.”
