American Medical Association President-Elect Peter W. Carmel, MD will receive the Circle of Excellence Award at the Samaritan Hospice Celebration of Life Mardi Gras Gala on February 26. The award acknowledges his commitment to integrating the increasingly critical field of Palliative Medicine into national and world-health discussions amidst a quickly-changing national healthcare landscape.

Dr. Carmel served on the World Medical Association's End-of-Life Work Group. He is currently Chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery and co-medical director of the Neurological Institute of New Jersey, operating at the University Hospital in Newark. He has been named to "Best Doctors in America" by American Health and "New Jersey Top Doctors" by New Jersey Magazine.

The Celebration of Life Mardi Gras Gala on February 26 will take place at The Westin Mt. Laurel. A cocktail reception begins at 7:00 p.m. followed by dinner, Dr. Carmel’s award presentation, live music, dancing, a silent auction, and the announcement of the evening’s Super 50/50 and Year of Delightful Dining raffle winners. The Year of Delightful Dining presents one winner with 12 gift certificates to local restaurants each valued at $200. Tickets are only $5. Super 50/50 raffle tickets are $25.
