State-wide Honors for Nurse Manager
Created by hospice on 12/23/2010 12:34:52 PM

Hospice organizations from throughout New Jersey converged on the New Jersey Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s (NJHPCO) 30th Anniversary Celebration to honor colleagues and award outstanding hospice professionals.

Carol McGair, RN of Samaritan Hospice received the award for Referral Center Manager of the Year from the state-wide organization. McGair oversees Samaritan’s Referral Center, which receives the initial calls from healthcare professionals and caregivers requesting hospice care. She manages the nurse liaisons who first visit a patient and provide information to the family. She also supervises the on-call department and Samaritan’s Transitions program for those not physically or psychologically ready for hospice care.

“When the Referral Center phone rings, Carol answers with her soothing voice and gives the person on the other end her undivided attention,” explained Samaritan Hospice President/CEO Mary Ann Boccolini. “She remains calm and focused on assessing and addressing the situation at hand, bringing comfort and control when the person may have started the interaction feeling their situation was out of control.”

McGair joins Samaritan colleagues who have also been the recipients of NJHPCO’s prestigious awards including: Dr. Stephen Goldfine – Hospice Medical Director of the Year (2009); Carol Paprocki – Public Relations Manager of the Year (2009);  and Sally Cezo – Volunteer Coordinator of the Year (2008).
