Samaritan Volunteers Honored
Created by hospice on 12/22/2010 2:38:54 PM

This year’s National Philanthropy Day on November 15 celebrated the spirit of giving by individuals, organizations and volunteers. At its annual breakfast, the  Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Southern New Jersey chapter presented John and Deborah Giacoboni of Cherry Hill with the Outstanding Volunteer Fundraisers Award.

Samaritan Hospice nominated the couple for their commitment to the veteran community through the coordination of an annual car show to benefit Samaritan Hospice. This year’s 3rd Annual Veterans Car, Truck and Bike Show raised $4,700 to benefit Samaritan’s Veterans Hospice Services. Over the last three years, they have raised over $14,600.

Throughout the car show, the Giacoboni’s pay tribute to our nation’s heroes by welcoming an Honor Guard, honoring local living and deceased veterans during the awards ceremony, and naming each class and motorcycle trophy in memory of a deceased veteran.

Samaritan’s Veterans Hospice Services was created by Samaritan in 2006. The experience of military service - particularly during traumatic combat assignments - can affect veterans physically, socially and emotionally throughout their lives, and especially at the end of life. Samaritan Veterans' Hospice Services provide specialized care and education for veterans and their families along with a Veterans Visiting Veterans program, where veteran volunteers visit and share military memories and experiences with our veteran hospice patients.

In addition to coordinating the car show to benefit Samaritan, Deborah has also worked as a certified home health aide with the not-for-profit organization for 10 years. “John and Deborah’s fundraising work is bringing awareness of hospice services to the veterans in our community,” said Samaritan Director of Development Robin Todd. “And their donations are ensuring vets throughout Samaritan’s service area are receiving the dignified care that they have earned and deserve. We are so incredibly grateful for the time and effort the Giacobonis dedicate to supporting Samaritan Hospice patients and families and can’t thank them enough for their efforts.”
