Samaritan Nurse Honored for Service
Created by hospice on 12/13/2010 4:03:35 PM

Samaritan Hospice nurse Jorge Sanchez of Beverly received the not-for-profit organization’s quarterly employee Dove Award for service excellence.

Sanchez has been with Samaritan for five years and provides care for patients at the Samaritan Inpatient Hospice Center in Mt. Holly. Jorge, or George as some families call him, received the award in part because of the care and attention that he provides to Samaritan patients and their families, putting them at ease as they cope with the end-of-life. As one family member put it, “On several of the nights, sleeping with Mom, George would come in and check on not only my Mom, but on My sister and I. He sat at times and talked with us, and helped us to feel comfortable with what was to come…I felt so safe, knowing George was looking over all of us.”

According to his supervisor, “Jorge really works to prepare the families for their loved one’s death.  This is something he never shies away from,” said Inpatient Unit Manager Terri Barnes. “It is the toughest part of our job.” Sanchez is also a valuable member of the team, and many who have worked with him can’t say enough about how much he has taught them.

Samaritan Hospice created the Dove Award in 2009 to recognize employees who exemplify at least one of the organization’s five pillars of excellence - people, service, quality, finance and growth.
